2012 Indiana Conference on Learning Follow Up

Elementary, middle, and high school educators and community members from across the state came together on January 24, 2012 for the 8th annual Indiana Conference on Learning. Many thanks to the 189 volunteers who donated their time and talent to make the 2012 conference a huge success!

2. Indiana's New Accountability System A-F
This session will present Indiana's new model for school accountability and it's methodology including the changes from the old PL221 model and its relationship to AYP.

4. Technology Supplemented Instruction in Grades K-5
The presentation will center on practical examples of how technology can be incorporated into instruction to enhance learning. We will share how our school incorporates interactive boards, iPods, laptops, blogs, and other technology in the classroom.

22. Goal Clarity: Common Core Standards
Embrace Common Core Standards using Goal Clarity Windows,a powerful tool for increasing student achievement. "Chunk" instruction, and use Depth of Knowledge to scaffold student learning. Take instructional efforts to the next level--the level of rigor and engagement needed to ensure student success.

29. Developing a Countywide Career Expo
Madison County needed to raise the awareness of post-secondary education for the success of it's students. They started by helping eighth, ninth, tenth graders understand that there were good, high paying jobs available in the community but that now was the time to become serious about education. The Madison County College Success Coalition has worked together with schools, businesses and universities to develop a County-wide Career Expo. This session will focus on how the coalition worked to develop a career expo to raise awareness within the community about the availability of high-paying jobs and the education required to obtain them.

31. Teacher Evaluation: Senate Act
This session will provide an overview of the requirements listed in Senate Enrolled Act 1, which focuses on the evaluation of teachers and principals. Information regarding the mandatory elements of evaluation systems, pay for performance and corporation next steps will be shared.

39. Supporting Good Writing Instruction: The Hoosier Writing Project
Learning to write well is one of the most challenging tasks for anyone. Teachers can help all students develop their skills and a love for writing. The Hoosier Writing Project, a site of the National Writing Project, works to improve writing instruction in schools using proven, research-based approaches.

46. RISE Teacher Evaluation Model
This session will provide an overview of the state-created teacher evaluation system, RISE. Participants will gain understanding of the teacher effectiveness rubric as well as how student data plays a role in determining a teacher's effectiveness rating.
