2013 Indiana Conference on Learning Keynote Speakers

Opening Keynote:


Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction

Glenda Ritz assumes the position of Indiana Superintendent for Public Instruction in January 2013.  She is currently a Library Media Specialist, teacher, and International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program Coordinator at Crooked Creek Elementary School in Indianapolis.  She guided her school to develop a strong literacy program which led Crooked Creek Elementary to become a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School and an Indiana 4 Star School.  Mrs. Ritz has served as president of the Washington Township Education Association for fifteen years and won the Teacher of the Year Award at two different MSD of Washington Township Schools in Indianapolis, Indiana.  She is a Golden Apple Award Winner and a National Board Certified Teacher – one of only 155 in Indiana.

Luncheon Keynote:


President, Ivy Tech Community College
Author, The Community College Career Track:  A Guide for High-Schoolers, Career-Changers, and Advisors

Thomas J. Snyder serves as president of Ivy Tech Community College, the largest institution of higher education in Indiana, serving more than 200,000 students annually at 30 campuses and 100 learning centers.  President Snyder successfully led the college through a 10-year accreditation process and has been nationally recognized for efforts and achievements, including a feature in The Chronicle of Higher Education as one of seven community college Presidents making a difference and as the 2009 Freedom Award recipient by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Indiana Holiday Commission for providing major, positive, societal influence in the community.

Conference participants will receive a complimentary copy of Dr. Snyder's new book, The Community College Career Track:  A Guide for High-Schoolers, Career-Changers, Parents, and Advisors.
