SI2 Newsletter - Update 1, 2, & 3 Steering Team Members - November 2017

NOVEMBER SUBMISSIONS

The organizational activities have been completed; now is the time to look toward and plan the November activities:

November is the time to update data as is listed on the VTA Process page in preparation for Council and Student Body Discussions in January and February. The Achievement Point person will see that all 2016-17 data charts are complete in order to have a successful Council Meeting in January. The Root Cause Data Point person will be updating the needed Root Cause Self Studies (as determined by the SIP Uses chosen by the school). In addition, the Update 3 schools will be setting up and conducting the student, parent, teacher, and community surveys. (Any Update year may conduct surveys; some schools have changed configurations, so it will be a good time to get baseline data.)

See the VTA Process sections for November to complete these steps and submit each item for review. Be sure to look over the rubric ahead of time so you know what is expected for each.

UPDATE 3 SCHOOLS: SURVEYS

Schools in Update 3 are required to survey all students and teachers as well as a representative number of parents and community members this year. Surveys can be taken on any device with a browser and an Internet connection (smart phones are not recommended due to their small screen size). Start making plans for this now - reserve computer labs or other resources as needed.

UPDATE 3 SCHOOLS: VISION

Every three years schools will also be re-visiting the school’s Vision Statement to make any needed updates. Section 4 of the Update 3 process will guide you through the steps to get input from all stakeholders! Shared vision is the basis of your school improvement work.

ARE YOUR INTERVENTIONS BEING IMPLEMENTED?

December's discussions center on Intervention Implementation. Are the interventions from the plan you wrote in 2016-2017 being implemented? Are you checking in frequently with those who are responsible for implementing Preparation Activities? Planning only has meaning when plans become actions!

ACCOUNTABILITY GRADES RELEASED

Make sure that your SIP Uses page is up-to-date in reference to the IDOE’s accountability grade. Be sure to update as needed so your VTA Process page will be correct. There is no need to resubmit the item.

GRANT OPPORTUNITY FOR NEW SCHOOLS INTERESTED IN JOINING SI2 - DEADLINE EXTENDED

ASAI has a few open spots for this year's SI2 grant. If you would like to encourage other buildings in your corporation to join SI2, please feel free to share along with your experiences. Applications are due on November 29. Tina will be happy to answer any questions they have via email or phone.
