Four U1-U3 schools have completed their SIPs. Great work keeping to the timeline while involving your full councils and student bodies in creating data-driven plans that will be implemented with integrity next year!

For everyone still working, keep going! You're well on your way to seeing those balloons on the VTA Process page.

You have arrived at the final steps of the 2018-19 SIP--researching and developing and/or updating strong Interventions that will eliminate Root Causes and move SMART goals data in the right direction. Now is the time to prepare the Interventions for implementation by carefully planning Professional Development as well as Preparation Details. Remember, the best Interventions are useless if they are not strongly supported by Preparations and PD.

The following steps outline the work plan for Teams during April:

Professional Development is also a very important part of successful Interventions. Don’t fall into the old way of thinking that the only good PD is one that requires time, money, and lots of coffee and doughnuts. With the plethora of technology we have at our fingertips, PD is easier that ever to develop. Remember the Google Docs you used with Student Discussions? Why not use this as well for Teachers as a piece of PD? Don't forget to review ASAI's Professional Development Planning Guide for best practices gleaned from years of working with SI2 schools. Good professional development often works just like good teaching--planning is key!

ALERT TO FOCUS-TARGETED TITLE I SCHOOLS: Be sure to closely check the Rubric for criteria that is needed in the Preparation stage.

Beginning in April, schools will begin receiving Friendly Reminders once a week in order to encourage completion of the SIP before teachers and students are gone for the summer.

If you find that your SIP is running behind schedule, now is the time to set up a conference call with the Steering Team and Tina in order to put a catch-up plan in place. April has arrived--it is essential that throughout this month your Team works diligently to get all items up-to-date in order to finish the plan on time. Plan to finish up before you lose your teachers and students!

In order to better serve our schools this semester, Tina will be working regular hours of 8-2 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. She is available from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesdays. If you’d like a pre-arranged conference call anytime, please contact Tina to set a date and time. Tina will be working a modified schedule during the week of April 16. She will return phone messages, answer emails, and check submissions to keep the VTA process going.

Now is a great time to be looking ahead on how to gather achievement data for the 2017-18 school year. When the teachers turn in grades, supply them with a Google doc or Excel sheet (or whatever method you use) with all the disaggregated groups you drop in for grade level data--Mastery Grades. The teachers can write in these number on hard copy and then it’s just a matter of data entry instead of having to search out all this information.
