2008-2009 Redesigning School Counseling (Indiana Gold Star) Workshop Series

The American Student Achievement Institute (ASAI) provides professional development opportunities to help Indiana schools meet the criteria for the Indiana Gold Star School Counseling Award presented by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) and the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) Award presented by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).
Participating schools design school counseling programs that support the academic goals found in their local School Improvement Plan by helping students 1) master standards in the areas of academic, career, and citizenship development, 2) overcome personal and/or social concerns that are interfering with learning, and 3) make sound educational choices like choosing to come to school, turn in homework, enroll in tough courses, and participate in extra-help programs.
Schools that participate in ASAI's workshop series work with a local School Counseling Advisory Council composed of students, teachers, parents, business representatives, and community members. Together they work through ASAI's Vision-to-Action process for school improvement to create a School Counseling Portfolio which schools may choose to submit to DOE and/or ASCA as evidence that the school has meet the criteria for the two awards described above.
