The American Student Achievement Institute (ASAI) is providing schools with training and resources to help them review and revise their School Counseling Portfolio with input from a local School Counseling Advisory Council.

Indiana Gold Star School Counseling Award -- Renewal:  The Indiana Department of Education requires schools to renew the Indiana Gold Star School Counseling Award award every three years.  Schools that received the Gold Star award in 2004, 2005, and 2006 will renew during the 2008-2009 school year.  After that, one cohort will renew each year. Indiana schools that received the Indiana Gold Star School Counseling Award may use this training to renew their Indiana Gold Star School Counseling Award.

Review and Revise Process:  Schools renewing their Gold Star award will not create a new School Counseling Portfolio.  Instead, they will simply 1) collect and analyze new student data to evaluate student needs at this point in time, 2) consider their resources (staff, time, materials) at this point in time, and then 3) revise documents in their current portfolio as needed.  For example, if the vision for the program has not changed, the Vision Statement would not be revised.  In another example, if data indicate that even though the program includes learning styles activities, students don't believe they understand their learning style, then counselors may want to omit or revise those activities.

Training Workshop:  ASAI will provide schools with a one-day training related to the Review and Revise Process in Indianapolis during the fall of each year.   Schools should send their School Counseling Steering Team (of at least two and no more than six) to this training.  Schools will receive a letter about this training from the Indiana Department of Education.  Online registration will be available on the ASAI website.

Local Advisory Council Meetings:  Schools will conduct three "Review and Revise" meetings with their School Counseling Advisory Council:

Review and Revise Documents:  Documents used during these local meetings are posted below:
School Counseling Online Management System:  ASAI provides schools participating in its school counseling workshops with an online School Counseling Program Management System.  Using this system, schools can create their School Counseling Portfolio online and then revise as needed annually.  Resources include online surveys related to students needs and student/teacher perceptions of the school counseling program; student data tables, and various reports including longitudinal data reports.  if your schools is participating in an ASAI workshop, contact ASAI to receive your username and password.
